Susan Coles and Nathan Monk started Mark me in August 2009 after an impromptu discussion about drawing. We had both been to design school to study visual communication but realised that we had both let our prior training in fine art go by the way-side. We wanted to start drawing again and regain some true draughtsmanship skills, and then we thought that other graphic designers may be in the same predicament.
Mark making is like anything else; much more fun when you do it with friends! So we decided to start an ongoing group blog where anyone can submit their drawings. Hopefully, we can start a small community of mark making enthusiasts and build our skills together.
New challenges are set regularly, to which the community makes their mark, and submits it by either visiting our submission page (gives you the most control and if you have a tumblr account your image will also generate a link to your blog) or by simply sending an email with the attached image to markme@tumblr.com
The challenges might be a subject or an item, but there is no right or wrong answer. You can use whatever you want to create the image and all techniques are valid. Sometimes the most unusual method is the most effective.
